Samantha Johnson

My name is Samantha Johnson. Ever since middle school, I have been in love with science and the world around me.

 

In my 7th grade class, we were tasked to care for a small fish tank that contained some guppies,
snails, and fiddler crabs. In this class I was able to apply things that I had already learned at
home, since my father and I owned a fish tank. Later, I joined a girls coding club. Through that, I
dove into the technology side of STEM. As I entered high school I started taking more difficult
classes like AP Chemistry and Physics. In AP Chemistry, I loved my teacher and my classmates.
The labs were far more interactive and in depth than any of my other science classes. To me, the
class was like math and science combined to create amazing chemical reactions. Science and
math have always been my favorite classes.

 

Once I took a Pharmacy Technician course, the world of medicine opened up to me. I was amazed at how the body works and the effects of medication. Now I am working at a pharmacy, and it is giving me all of the skills I need to interact with patients: empathy, problem solving, and using healthcare systems.

Now that I have completed my second year in the Direct Admission BSN Program, I have
been able to get hands-on learning in hospitals and clinics. I have been able to help people in
need, provide crucial healthcare and education, and grown as a person in so many ways. Each
year has been different. I’ve had to alter my study methods for each class and learn how to
manage my time between life, school, and work. Even though each year becomes more
difficult, every class is teaching me things that I am so passionate about. From anatomy and
physiology to pharmacology and health assessment, I have been loving every presentation and
lecture. Becoming a nurse is hard work, but I am willing to do whatever it takes to reach that
finish line and fulfill that dream.

I have been a Certified Pharmacy Technician for 2 years, which has helped me in my journey through nursing school. I truly wish to succeed in every way possible in my journey through my college career.
