CRIMINOLOGY, LAW & SOCIETY

Doris Fisher Irwin Endowment

MY STORY

I would genuinely and sincerely like to thank you for this exceptional award that has been granted to me. It is a great honor to receive The Great Falls Friends & Neighbors Scholarship Doris Fisher Irwin Endowment Award that will help fund my educational expenses for the 2022-2023 academic school year. It means a great deal to me because your support and generosity have provided me with the continuation of my educational pursuit here at George Mason University.

There have been times when my dream of pursuing a higher education seemed incredibly impossible due to family financial obligations, but the financial assistance you have provided me has helped me tremendously to keep me going. I am a Senior and a first-generation student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Criminology, Law & Society with a minor in Intelligence Studies. I choose this degree because it combines my love for helping others and will allow me to learn outstanding knowledge through coursework and from intelligent professors with outstanding experiences. Working as a volunteer in my community throughout my high school and college career, I fell in love with helping people who are in need as well as by learning about other available resources.

I have made it my mission to thoroughly excel in my degree coursework and I have done this by achieving and maintaining a high GPA, as well as gaining as much experience in the field as I possibly can. Some of the experiences I have gained at Mason include being a part of the Intelligence Community club and sticking with and meeting every milestone in the ADVANCE program. One of my favorite extracurricular activities includes being a soccer coach for U-19 girls because I really enjoy the game as well as mentoring the girls.

I have a goal of graduating in the Fall of 2023 and plan to pursue a career as an Intelligence Analyst in the intelligence field upon graduating from George Mason, where I might have even more of an ability to help others in need. After graduation, I am thrilled to continue my educational endeavors by enrolling in the master’s program for foreign affairs here at George Mason. With your generosity, I am one step closer to that goal. By awarding me The Great Falls Friends & Neighbors Scholarship Doris Fisher Irwin Endowment Award, you have lightened my financial burden, which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school, learning and expanding. Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as you have helped me. My educational pursuits would not be possible without the generous support from scholarship sponsors like your organization. Once again, thank you for awarding this scholarship to me, and my sincere gratitude for your generosity, kindness, and support.
