Aram Mehrzad

My name is Aram Mehrzad, and I am a Mechanical Engineering student at George Mason 
University. My educational journey has been shaped by perseverance, resilience, and a strong 
commitment to achieving my goals despite significant challenges.

I began studying Civil Engineering at Herat University in Afghanistan, where I successfully 
completed five semesters of coursework. However, following the political changes in Afghanistan and the 
restrictions placed on women's education, I was unable to complete my degree. Determined to continue 
my education, I immigrated to the United States and started over by enrolling at Northern Virginia 
Community College (NOVA).

At NOVA, I worked hard to rebuild my academic path while adapting to a new country, language, 
and educational system. Through dedication and persistence, I earned a place on the Dean's List, received 
Presidential Scholar recognition, joined Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and graduated with an Associate 
of Science degree in Engineering. I have since transferred to George Mason University, where I am 
pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

Beyond academics, I am passionate about leadership and community service. I founded 
Development Vision Inc. (DVI), a nonprofit initiative dedicated to supporting education and mentorship 
opportunities for underserved communities, particularly women and girls affected by educational barriers. 
I have also participated in the NASA ORBIT program, working with a team to develop innovative 
engineering solutions inspired by NASA technologies.

My long-term goal is to contribute to the aerospace and engineering industries while continuing 
to advocate for educational opportunities for women and underrepresented communities.
