Aaiza Waheed

My name is Aaiza Waheed, and I am currently pursuing an Associate of Science degree at 
Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), where I have maintained a 4.0 GPA while 
completing a rigorous pre-medical curriculum. I am a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant 
(CCMA), Biology Laboratory Assistant at NOVA, Clinical Technician at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, 
and Research Assistant at George Mason University. My academic journey reflects my 
commitment to science, service, and lifelong learning.

Before immigrating to the United States, I completed three years of medical school at Quaid-eAzam Medical College in Pakistan. Although I was unable to transfer those credits, I chose to 
begin again with determination and resilience. Rather than viewing this setback as an ending, I 
embraced it as an opportunity to rebuild my academic career. Since enrolling at NOVA, I have 
earned numerous academic honors, including recognition as a Presidential Scholar, selection to 
the All-USA Academic Team, the Coca-Cola New Century Scholar Award, the Student Academic 
Achievement Award, the MSTB Division Award, and the Campus Rising Star Award.

My greatest inspiration has always been my mother. She was married at the age of seventeen 
before completing high school, limiting the educational opportunities available to her. Despite 
the sacrifices and challenges she faced, she consistently encouraged me to pursue the 
education she never had the chance to complete. As the eldest of six daughters, I see my 
education as more than a personal achievement; it is an opportunity to become a role model 
for my five younger sisters. No one in my immediate family has pursued higher education, and I 
hope to create a generational shift by demonstrating how education can transform not only 
one life but the future of an entire family.

Outside the classroom, I actively seek opportunities to grow as a leader and serve my 
community. I currently serve as the President of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the President of 
the ACID Chemistry Club at NOVA. I also founded the Al-Khidmut Foundation, a nonprofit 
organization dedicated to supporting underserved communities through educational initiatives 
and humanitarian assistance. These experiences have strengthened my leadership, 
communication, and organizational skills while reinforcing my commitment to helping others.

 

My immediate goal is to complete my Associate of Science & Biology degree at NOVA and 
transfer to George Mason University to earn a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. I then plan 
to attend medical school and pursue a career as a physician-scientist and neurosurgeon, 
combining patient care with research to improve the understanding and treatment of 
neurological diseases.​
