Ghezal Kohestani

MY STORY

My name is Ghezal Kohestani. I am a sophomore at Northern Virginia Community College pursuing an Associate of Science in Engineering. I immigrated with my family to the United States from Afghanistan in August 2021 after my country was taken over by the Taliban. I was inspired by my mother, a mathematics teacher, to study engineering.  I began my studies at Kabul University in 2021, where I was one of the few female students in the civil engineering program. I am committed to becoming a civil engineer who designs innovative and sustainable structures, contributing to safer and more inclusive communities. I plan to transfer to a four-year university, to earn a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
